Psychics & Mediums

Updated: Jul 6

Recently I was thinking back on some of the readings I have had in the past, how some have been very good, but others have been very bad, and this compelled me to write a little about the responsibility I feel psychics and mediums have as readers and communicators.

Some psychics do not always demonstrate the degree of empathy you would expect and will pass on messages or guidance that is rather questionable, not so much in its validity, but in its ability to cut deep and do harm.  Readings are often highly emotive, especially if someone is looking for some clarity that a much loved departed soul is indeed happy and at peace now, or they are worried about a living loved one, and as such a reader has a responsibility towards that person, to not pass on distressing messages whether they claim to be from a spirit or not.

I have heard the excuses – I’m just passing on what I get, or the message was for their own good, but that doesn’t cut it. You have a filter, use it. You are aware of what you’re saying

even when channelling someone in spirit. It is also not up to you to play judge and jury either, deciding what someone should be doing or needs to hear. This is the darker side of psychics and readings, and I believe ego plays a big part in it. It is not spiritual to say something that will hurt another, especially if you are telling them that a loved one is going to die soon – yes, I have heard this myself more than once and it was never accurate! I do not believe that a loved one in spirit or a guide would ever want you to know when someone you love, be they human or animal, is going to die. Nothing can ever prepare you for grief, so what would be the point in such a message, how on earth could it be beneficial to you? Besides, nothing is ever set in stone, and nobody can give you a prediction that is 100% accurate, so always keep that in mind, no matter what you are told.

If you are receiving a reading and something upsets you, then stop the reader and ask for some clarity, explaining that what they are saying is distressing you – if they cannot do that then walk away and disregard anything you have been told. I would personally be asking for my money back in that situation. Many readers use tarot cards and some of the images can look a bit scary or worrying if you are not familiar with them, but any good reader will be happy to explain what the cards represent and allay your fears.

As someone who uses tarot cards, oracle cards and my own intuition, I am very aware how easy it can be for your brain to sneak in and place a thought in your head that isn’t from spirit and isn’t your intuition; so I am sure that people who read for a living need to be mindful of this and probably struggle to discern a messages origin sometimes. Please if you do read for other people consider what you are saying – you are not completely infallible and can get things wrong. We all have opinions and must try not to let them get in the way or judge others who may be feeling very vulnerable.

I am sure this blog will upset some people, but I do not care – I feel very strongly that this needs to be said. Many people who go for a reading are in a very vulnerable place and that must always be taken in consideration as there is a potential to do great harm. In the past I once received a message that hurt and worried me deeply, but it never came to pass. At the time I was so worried that I sat and cried about the situation – how did that help me? These days I prefer to find my own guidance, but if I do go for a reading it is always with someone I trust.

We must remember not to take everything we are told too seriously, because there are things we are simply not meant to know, as it is part of our lesson in this life, and sometimes messages can get confused or are unclear. Take what makes sense and ignore the rest.
